Deportation officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans arrested 12 unlawfully present individuals in a weeklong operation that focused efforts against current threats to local public safety.


HSI Newark investigation leads to return of ancient pottery during Republic of Cyprus repatriation ceremony

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Newark, alongside representatives from the HSI Cultural Property, Art and Antiquities program (CPAA), the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) held a repatriation ceremony for seized ancient Cypriot pottery April 20, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington, D.C.


HSI Casa Grande investigation results in significant sentences for smugglers in U-Haul transport resulting in death

A federal judge sentenced the remaining men involved in an October 2020 human smuggling incident that resulted in death were sentenced during the week of April 17 following a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Casa Grande investigation.

Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested an unlawfully present citizen of Ecuador recently arrested and charged by Massachusetts State Police with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage on April 20.


Louisiana man pleads guilty to child exploitation

Following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baton Rouge, a Morganza resident pled guilty to production and attempted production of child pornography April 21.


Man who hid meth in air freshener convicted of drug trafficking charges following HSI Corpus Christi-led investigation

A 57-year-old man who used an air freshener to hide methamphetamines from authorities pleaded guilty to drug trafficking-related charges April 24 following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Houston’s Corpus Christi office, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Corpus Christi office and the Corpus Christi Police Department.


HSI San Juan investigation leads to arresting man for child exploitation charges in Cupey

HSI San Juan special agents arrested Ignacio Manuel Delgado Fernandez in San Juan’s Cupey area for the distribution, receipt, transportation and possession of child sexual abuse material. The Puerto Rico Crimes Against Children Task Force assisted in the investigation.


HSI Douglas case results in 6-year sentence for methamphetamine trafficker

A federal judge sentenced Taylor Melton Addington, 33, of Phoenix, April 13 to six years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his involvement in trafficking methamphetamine following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Addington pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.


7 people convicted in family-run gambling business after HSI, partner investigation

Seven South Texans were convicted April 24 for conspiring to conduct illegal gambling in Webb and Zapata counties. The convictions follow a joint investigation between Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Laredo Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Webb County District Attorney’s Office.


Texas woman pleads guilty to importing crystal meth after joint HSI McAllen investigation

A South Texas woman pleaded guilty April 24 to importing approximately 53 pounds of crystal meth into the United States following an investigation worked by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with help from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.


Arkansas man sentenced to 30 years for child exploitation

A Fayetteville man was sentenced April 25 in the Eastern District of Arkansas to serve 30 years in federal prison for production of child sexual abuse material.


ERO Boston arrests foreign fugitive convicted and sentenced to prison in Brazil

Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested an unlawfully present Brazilian national who was convicted and sentenced to prison in Brazil for homicide in Boston on April 25.


Miguel Vergara selected as ERO Harlingen field office director

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) announced Miguel Vergara’s selection to the Senior Executive Service April 25. Vergara will serve as the field office director (FOD) for the Harlingen field office.


ERO New York City removes noncitizen aggravated felon to the Marshall Islands

Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New York City removed Gina Zhou, 35, to the Marshall Islands April 18.


Man pleads guilty to importing meth following HSI McAllen, federal partner investigation

A South Texas man pleaded guilty April 24 to importing meth after a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) McAllen and U.S. Customs and Border Protection investigation. Argelio Chavero, 50, of Alton, admitted to aiding and abetting another man to bring meth into the country before a federal judge.


ERO Boston arrests Brazilian wanted for fraud in home country

Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested an unlawfully present immigration fugitive wanted in Brazil for fraud in Lynn, Massachusetts, April 18.


Former service member sentenced to 12 years for conspiring to smuggle drugs into the US

A former Marine received a 12-year prison sentence for his role in trafficking illegal drugs into the United States.
