Subapplications Summary
On May 19, 2023, FEMA announced the Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program initial round of selections for the tribal set-aside and the state and territory allocations.
For fiscal year 2022, FEMA made a total of $800 million available for the Flood Mitigation Assistance program. This is a 5-fold increase from the previous grant cycle and, to date, the most funding historically offered by FEMA.
In total, for the Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program in fiscal year 2022, FEMA received 270 subapplications totaling nearly $980 million from 29 states, territories, and the District of Columbia.
FEMA received $602 million in funding requests for localized flood risk reduction projects, which is over three times what was received in the last grant cycle.
Investing in flood mitigation measures through this grant program is a cost-effective way to reduce the risk of flooding and associated economic losses compared with the cost of responding to and recovering from flooding.
This funding will address effects of climate change and reduces flood risk for disadvantaged communities across the country.
