The following statements was published by the U.S. Department of HCA on May 17. It is reproduced in full below.

Thank you, Chairman Amodei, for presenting the Fiscal Year 2024 Legislative Branch Appropriations bill. I appreciate the work you have done on this bill.

The bill funds the many important functions of the Legislative Branch, including:

* Congressional oversight of the Administration;

* The care and security of our historic buildings; and

* The funds Members need to represent their districts.

But those of us in Congress must do our part to reduce spending while funding our highest priorities. I am pleased to say this bill strikes the right balance.

Overall, the bill reduces funding for the Legislative Branch by 2%. This is done without impacting the day-to-day operations of Congress or sacrificing the security of the Capitol complex.

Specifically, this bill continues the security measures that will keep the Capitol open and ensure members, staff, and visitors are safe. It supports our brave Capitol police officers by providing the funds necessary to recruit and retain the force. Most importantly, it provides resources to ensure that the House of Representatives can keep a close watch on the actions of this Administration.

To close, I want to thank the Subcommittee Members and staff - both Majority and Minority - for their hard work on this bill. Thank you, Mr. Chairman, I yield back.
