FEMA Awards Over $16 Million to Hartford Hospital for COVID Operating Costs
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending more than $16 million to the State of Connecticut to reimburse Hartford Hospital for the cost of purchasing materials needed to safely treat patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The $16,035,015 in FEMA Public Assistance grants will reimburse the 938-bed acute care teaching hospital and tertiary care center in Hartford for the cost of purchasing test kits for the public, patients, and staff, as well as a wide range of medical products for treating COVID patients and protecting staff between February 2020 and July 2022.

The hospital purchased 875,847 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and antigen COVID-19 tests; personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks, medical gloves, medical gowns and shoe covers; and supplies such as Plexiglass, disinfectants, thermometers, and oximeters.
“FEMA is pleased to be able to assist Hartford Hospital with these costs,” said FEMA Region 1 Regional Administrator Lori Ehrlich. “Providing resources for our partners on the front lines of the pandemic fight is critical to their success, and our success as a nation.”
FEMA’s Public Assistance program is an essential source of funding for states and communities recovering from a federally declared disaster or emergency.
So far, FEMA has provided more than $649 million in Public Assistance grants to Connecticut to reimburse the state for pandemic-related expenses.
