hereCoast Guard announces appointment of Advisory Board on Women in the Coast Guard members 

The Coast Guard has recently appointed 15 members to the newly established Advisory Board on Women in the Coast Guard. Consistent with guidance directed by Public Law 116–283, also known as the William (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, the board will provide recommendations to the Commandant on matters relating to recruiting, retaining, advancing, and the wellbeing of women who serve in the Coast Guard.  

Committee member appointments include:  

Melanie Arroyave,  Sector Virginia, active duty officer 

Diane M. Bucci,  Bradenton, Florida, retired 

Megan L. Drewniak,  Sector Northern New England, active duty officer  

Sain-R K. Edwards,  Pacific Area (PAC-3), reserve enlisted  

Dana L. Fleming,  Sector Ohio Valley, active duty officer 

Christye N. Greene,  PSU 307, reserve enlisted  

Katharine M. Howes,  Sector Buffalo, reserve officer  

Lauren J. Lyver,  Coast Guard Cutter John Scheuerman, reserve officer 

Ashley R. Moore, Sector North East New England, reserve officer  

Kira M. Patino, Coast Guard Station Niagra, active duty enlisted  

Jazmyn T. Sailor,  CG C5ISC, active duty enlisted 

Heather R. Sheer, Coast Guard Station, reserve enlisted 

Jennifer L. Sinclair,  Alexandria, Virginia, retired 

Briana R. Tarby, Coast Guard Academy, active duty enlisted

Advisor participation on the board is in a collateral, voluntary duty capacity. Members applied via a process managed by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (CG-1D1) and were chosen by a panel of leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion subject matter experts from throughout the Coast Guard total workforce.   

“Adm. Fagan has said, ‘tomorrow looks different. So will we.’ The Coast Guard sincerely is executing new activities to accelerate a more diverse and inclusive workforce. An environment where every person can succeed as far as their drive will take them, while also achieving our 11 missions codified in the Homeland Security Act of 2002,” said Chief Petty Officer Lana Port, gender policy enlisted advisor within the Office of Diversity & Inclusion. Port serves as the project manager charged with setting up the administrative support and knowledge management structure for the Advisory Board on Women in the Coast Guard. 

The board’s first business meeting is scheduled for June 2023.
