U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Wellesley Island Station conducted a vehicle stop and subsequent arrest that resulted in the seizure of illegal marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $400,000.  

On March 5, Border Patrol agents performing roving patrol near the town of Theresa, conducted a vehicle stop on a subject suspected of smuggling. During the agents’ investigation, the driver identified himself as a Canadian resident but could not produce documents that identified his status within the United States. Further investigation determined that the driver was a United States citizen and the vehicle contained thirteen large duffle bags containing approximately 278 lbs. of vacuum sealed marijuana.

“Border Patrol agents work tirelessly to prevent the influx of illegal narcotics into our communities”, said Chief Patrol Agent Thomas Martin of the Buffalo Sector, “This seizure was only possible through the vigilance of our agents and the great collaboration between agencies.” 

The subject and illegal marijuana were turned over to the New York State troopers, after processing by Border Patrol agents. The male-subject faces felony charges for Criminal Possession of Cannabis.
