The following press release was published by the U.S. Secret Service on Oct. 4, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

On the night of Oct. 22, 2014, Officer Technician Mirarchi and his canine partner, Hurricane, were assigned to the Emergency Response Team stationed on the grounds of the White House. They were called to respond to a potentially dangerous situation and did exactly what they were trained to do. Due to their quick response and flawless execution of their training, this dangerous situation was averted before it had a chance to begin.

The Secret Service Uniformed Division canine program is, without a doubt, one of the best in the world, and Officer Mirarchi and Hurricane executed their mission flawlessly, said Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Thomas Sullivan. The entire Secret Service is proud of Officer Mirarchi and Hurricane and all the men and women and canines that do that job every day.

The canine teams travel all over the world in support of the Secret Service protective mission, said Deputy Chief Richard Macauley, who attended the event to receive the award on behalf of the Secret Service. There is no question that these teams make our jobs easier and are critical to the success of our mission.

The Secret Service would like to thank the PDSA for recognizing the outstanding men, women and canines of the Secret Service for their unwavering dedication to duty.
