Rapidly advancing technology is changing peoples lives in all sorts of ways but, unfortunately, not all of it is good. As we depend more and more on information technology, new vulnerabilities emerge. That is why the U.S. Secret Service hosted Cyber Storm VI this week.
Cyber Storm VI is the Department of Homeland Securitys annual national-level exercise that simulates a cyber crisis of national and international consequence. This years exercise brought together hundreds of partners from critical sectors, including transportation, manufacturing, information technology and many others, in addition to local, state and federal law enforcement.
No actual systems are attacked during Cyber Storm but largescale, coordinated cyber attacks are simulated in order to test intrusion and response capabilities to the nations critical infrastructure. What we learned will make us more prepared and will strengthen the nations capacity to respond to cyber incidents.
