The following press release was published by the U.S. Secret Service on Nov. 29, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

LAUREL, MD Today, the U.S. Secret Service began construction on a state-of-the-art training facility.

The new Maloney Canine Training Facility, located at the agencys James J. Rowley Training Center,

will roughly triple the size of the agencys current facility.

Our Canine program is one the Secret Service is extremely proud of. The dedication and commitment

demonstrated by our canine trainers and handlers will now be matched with a facility that is modern and

deserving of such a great program. said Director Randolph D. Alles.

The Secret Service has been working to enhance the canine facilities for the last few years. Today marks

the start of the estimated 400 days of construction until the new kennels and administrative building will

open. The Service has set up temporary kennels on the James J. Rowley Training Center for the dogs that

will need housing between now and the opening of the new building.

This 13.1 million dollar building will create a safer environment for the canines living in the facility, with

stainless steel bars for doors instead of a chain link fence, and 10 isolation kennels for the newcomers and

36 kennels in total. The updated administrative building will be split between office space and classroom

space to create a more efficient work environment.

"I am honored that my team designed and will oversee the construction of this state-of-the-art

replacement facility for some of the most impressive canines in our nation. We worked diligently with our

partners at the U.S. Secret Service to provide them with a complex that features 21st century

modernization in both design and functionality and places canine and handler safety at the forefront, said

Col. Ed Chamberlayne, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District commander.
