Secret Service Arrests Michael Arega at White House for Making Felony Threats

The following press release was published by the U.S. Secret Service on Nov. 6, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(Washington, D.C.) Today at approximately 2:55 p.m., the Secret Service Protective Intelligence Division was notified to be on the lookout (BOLO) for Michael Arega, who reportedly traveled to Washington D.C. for the purpose of killing all white police at the White House.

The BOLO was issued by the Montgomery County Maryland Police Department. Secret Service personnel at the White House immediately increased their posture of readiness and began searching for Arega.

At approximately 4:05 p.m., Arega was observed by Secret Service personnel on the north side of Pennsylvania Avenue near Lafayette Park. Arega was immediately detained by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers and subsequently arrested without incident. Arega was not armed with a weapon at the time of his arrest.

Arega, of Dallas, was charged with Making Felony Threats and transported to the Metropolitan Police Department.

This arrest demonstrates the extensive cooperation between law enforcement agencies in the National Capital Region.
