An Akron man was indicted on firearms and counterfeiting charges, said Acting U.S. Attorney David A. Sierleja.
Abraham Lewis Addison, 27, was indicted on five counts of uttering and dealing in counterfeit obligations or securities and one count of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Addison on Sept. 9, 2016 had had approximately $2,450 in counterfeit currency in the form of fake $50 and $20 bills. HE also had a Ruger 9mm semiautomatic pistol with an obliterated serial number, according to the indictment.
This case was investigated by the Summit County Sheriffs Office, Akron Police Department, Ohio Highway Patrol, Bath Police Department and the United States Secret Service. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Riley.
If convicted, the defendants sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendants prior criminal record, if any, the defendants role in the offense and the characteristics of the violations. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and, in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the governments burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
