The following press release was published by the U.S. Secret Service on Jan. 19, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(Washington, D.C.) Due to the forecast of rain during the 2017 Inauguration, umbrellas will be permitted in the areas of the parade route (Pennsylvania Avenue) and National Mall.

Umbrellas MUST meet the following criteria to be permitted through security:

Compact in design

No longer than 18 in length, when collapsed

No pointed tip

Umbrellas that do not adhere to the specific characteristics will not be allowed into secure areas. Umbrellas left outside secured areas will not be the responsibility of security personnel.

As a reminder, U.S. Capital Police have PROHIBITED ALL UMBRELLAS for members of the public with tickets to attend events on U.S. Capital property.
