Hurricane joined the Emergency Response Team Tactical Canine Unit in November of 2012.

Hurricane served faithfully alongside Uniformed Division Officer-Technician Marshall J. Mirarchi. Both participated in numerous protective missions to include Presidential Details, Special Events and daily assignments in and around the White House.

On Nov. 3, 2015, Hurricane and Mirarchi were awarded the Secretarys Award for Valor by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. The award was for their efforts to neutralize an individual who had jumped the White House fence in 2014.
