(Tampa, FL) - United States Secret Service Director Joseph P. Clancy has announced the appointment of a veteran agent with a distinguished record to the position of Special Agent in Charge in Tampa.

Billy Joe Powers, a veteran agent with over 20 years of experience in the agency recently took over as the Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) of the Tampa Field Office.

Throughout his career, Billy Joe has developed the reputation for being a leader of great character and is well respected within the Secret Service and the greater law enforcement community, said Clancy.

SAIC Powers began his career with the Secret Service in 1996, serving in the Atlanta Field Office.

SAIC Powers was subsequently assigned to the Presidential Protective Division in Washington, D.C., where he served from 2001-2005.

In 2005, SAIC Powers transferred to the Memphis Field Office, where he excelled in criminal investigations.

SAIC Powers ascended into the management ranks in 2007 when he was selected for promotion, serving as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Clinton Protection Division in Washington D.C.

In 2010, SAIC Powers assumed command of the Albany, GA Resident Office as the Resident Agent in Charge. SAIC Powers served in this capacity for three years before being selected for promotion to the position of Inspector in the Office of Professional Responsibility.
