(Washington, D.C.) On May 13, 2016, Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy recognized twenty-six outstanding members of the workforce at the Directors Awards Program. The annual program recognizes those who have embodied the agencys core values Duty, Justice, Loyalty, Honesty, and Courage which symbolize the five points of the Secret Service Star.
Honorees performed lifesaving actions, enacted innovative solutions, and provided significant contributions to the integrated missions of protection and investigations.
Our duty is to successfully execute our mission every minute of every day, said Director Clancy. The key to this success is having the right people.
Over the past year, the Secret Service successfully led four National Special Security Events, including the Papal visits and the 70th United Nations General Assembly. This was in addition to supporting a Presidential Campaign consisting of four concurrent protective details.
Tribute was paid to an employee who suffered a spinal injury as a victim of a motor vehicle accident while on duty. During a heartfelt video highlighting the employees remarkable spirit and commitment, the employee stressed his desire to make a difference before and after the incident.
I have been asked many times what type of person does it take to be in the Secret Service, said Director Clancy. My response has always been a special one.
