Port Security Hearing Highlights High-Risk Vulnerabilities, Public and Private Sector Information Sharing

This week, the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, led by Chairman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), held a hearing on port security vulnerabilities, in which Members highlighted high-risk threats posed to U.S. maritime ports by cyber criminals and our adversaries. In the hearing, the Subcommittee heard testimony from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Chairmen Green, Gallagher Slam DHS’s Silence, Demand Answers on Threats Posed by Chinese-Manufactured Cranes at U.S. Ports

Ahead of a Subcommittee hearing on port security vulnerabilities, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) and Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security Chairman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) joined Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) in sending a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas seeking immediate compliance with an April 3, 2023 inquiry, which sought a briefing and documentation related to the use of Chinese-manufactured cargo cranes and software at U.S. ports. Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability Chairman Dan Bishop (R-NC), Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence Chairman August Pfluger (R-TX), and Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Chairman Protection Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) also co-signed the letter.

Homeland Security Republicans to Law Enforcement: “We Have Your Back”

This National Police Week, the House Committee on Homeland Security recognizes our nation’s law enforcement as well as the Members of the Committee who use their experience in law enforcement to help secure the homeland in the United States Congress. In 2021, more law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty than any year in the past two decades.
