Department of Homeland Security Announces Distribution of More Than $290 Million in Congressional Funding for Communities Receiving Migrants

Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), will publish a funding notice under the new Shelter and Services Program (SSP) for more than $290 million to 34 non-federal entities for temporary shelter and other eligible expenditures for migrants who have been processed and provisionally released from DHS custody while awaiting the outcome of their immigration proceedings. An additional $73 million will be made available later this summer.

DHS to Ban Imports from Two Additional PRC-Based Companies as Part of Its Enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA)

Today the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced new actions to keep forced labor practices out of the U.S. supply chain. The interagency Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force (FLETF), led by DHS, added two People’s Republic of China (PRC)-based companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List. Effective June 12, 2023, goods produced by Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Co., Ltd. and Ninestar Corporation and eight of its Zhuhai-based subsidiaries will be restricted from entering the United States as a result of the companies’ participation in business practices that target members of persecuted groups, including Uyghur minorities in the PRC.


CISA Directs Federal Agencies to Secure Internet-Exposed Management Interfaces

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) today issued Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 23-02, Mitigating the Risk from Internet-Exposed Management Interfaces, which requires federal civilian agencies to remove specific networked management interfaces from the public-facing internet or implement Zero Trust Architecture capabilities that enforce access control to the interface within 14 days of discovery.
